    Type-P Overlay

    # PPC-601    Type-P Overlay

    This skull frame baseplate is specifically designed to meet the unique requirements of proton therapy for patient immobilization and beam transmission. It is designed and engineered to rigidly support the patient without using a flat base that blocks the use of important proton beam angles. The conformal shape is desired to minimize the distance between the patient and the field defining aperture, optimizing the beam proton penumbra.
    Using our mold maker # MMR-106 can help technicians create perfect pillows to maximize patient comfort and minimize the gap between skull and baseplate. This overlay also incorporate the couch-mounting mechanisms found in the traditional IMRT boards to facilitate the use of the same device in combined proton and conventional photon therapy

    Proton Aperture is a metal block containing a hole through which the radiation proton beam passes. Each field or area of treatment for each patient requires a custom aperture. The shape of the hole is the approximate shape of the target being treated by the beam. Every patient has her or his own set of apertures, and no other patients use them.

    Proton Compensator is a custom beam- shaping device made of HDPE through which a proton beam is delivered. It is used to absorb some energy from the proton beam so that it stops just on the edges of the tumor or target. This keeps the normal, healthy tissues beyond the tumor from receiving radiation and is used with an aperture.
